Custom Mic Stands: Handmade Chain Link Microphone Stands Built in Kansas City
Walk into any music store and every mic stand looks identical: black tube, tripod base, done. If you want your stage setup to look like nobody else's, that's a problem.
That's why we build chain link microphone stands by hand in our Kansas City shop. Each one is welded from actual chain link — roughly 400 welds per stand — with an intentional patina finish, so no two come out the same.
How they're built
Every stand is built to order. You choose:
- Boom or straight: the boom version adjusts to standard mic height (around 60 inches), while the straight version can be built to your requested height.
- Finish: the patina look varies from stand to stand — rust, dents, and character are part of the design.
- Standard hardware: each stand includes a standard 3/8-inch thread mic holder, so your existing clips fit.
The base screws off for transport, which matters when you're loading in and out of gigs. Because these are hand-built to order, expect a few weeks of lead time before shipping.
Want it to light up?
We also build a version with an illuminated base, available with either the chain link upright or a tubular upright. If you want your stand to be the thing people remember from the show, that's the one.

Beyond mic stands
The mic stands started as one-off builds for musicians who wanted something different, and that grew into a line of custom stage gear — including drum racks and custom drum module stands. Browse the full Musician Gear collection to see what else comes out of the shop.

Ordering a custom build
Have a specific height, finish, or idea in mind? Message us before ordering and we'll talk through it. Custom is the whole point — these are welded one at a time, not pulled off a shelf.
