My Samsung 75" TV Screen Started Falling Off the Wall (Here's Why, and the Fix)

I was in my shop and noticed the ceiling above my 75" Samsung TV was lit up a little. That's weird, I thought. So I climbed up to take a look, and found the whole screen panel pulling away from the frame at the top.

If your Samsung Crystal UHD TV is doing the same thing, gapping at the top, sagging forward, or leaking backlight around the edges, you're not the only one.

Why This Happens

On these TVs, the screen panel is held to the frame with adhesive. Over time (and especially with heat, or a TV mounted with any forward lean) that glue weakens and lets go. There's no bracket or fastener behind it, just glue, so once it starts separating it tends to get worse until the panel comes loose entirely.

Is This a Known Issue?

Yes. Samsung TV owners have reported the same screen and panel separation problem on their own sets:

My Temporary Fix

While I worked on a real solution, I held my screen together with plain kitchen chip clips and a paper towel underneath so they wouldn't scratch the panel. It worked, but it's not something I'd want holding up a 75" screen long-term, and it looks exactly as janky as it sounds.

The Actual Fix

I designed and 3D printed a black retention clip out of PETG that clips over the outer frame and gently holds the screen panel flush, no glue, no disassembly, no electrical tape. I went through a few prototypes before landing on a design with the right angle to grip the panel without marking it.

I installed two clips per side and four across the top, eight total, and that's held my TV secure since.

Which Clip Set Do I Need?

I originally made the wrap-around clips for my own 75-inch Samsung Crystal UHD DU6950. They worked, but I kept hearing from people whose TVs had curved backs, thicker bezels, or frames that would not let that style hook around the outside. So I made a second version that mounts a completely different way.

• Universal stick-on clips: Start here unless you have a DU6950. These tape to the side of the TV with 3M VHB tape, and a small lip reaches around to catch the front edge of the panel. Look at your TV from the side: you need a reasonably flat spot about 1/2 inch wide for the tape, plus clearance for the lip to come around the front. They fit a lot of TVs, thick ones included.
• Wrap-around clips, 75-inch DU6950 only: No adhesive at all. They hook over the whole frame, which means the frame has to match, and the DU6950 is the only model I have confirmed. A Samsung badge and a 75-inch screen don't make it a DU6950, so check the label on the back of the set before you order.

If you have a DU6950, use the wrap-around set, since there's no adhesive involved. Everything else, the universal set is the less picky option. Apparently one standard TV frame shape would have been too easy.
